Soran University Hosts the Second Workforce Development Forum in Kurdistan Region
The Second Workforce Development Forum in Kurdistan Region, which is organized by Career Development Center- Soran University kicked off its two-day works on Tuesdays, February 18th, 2025. Five panel sessions will feature the subject of labor force provision between university and the labor market. The event was attended by Soran University President , AP.Dr. Sherwan Sharif Qurtas, the university council members, government and party officials, entrepreneurs, businessmen, faculty, and students.
Dr. Rizgar Saeed Hussein, President's Assistant for Student Affairs and Head of the forum's organizing committee, opened the event, outlining the forum's organization, aims, purpose, and significance.
Later, SU President welcomed the audience in a speech and commended the organizers of the forum. Highlighting the significance of the event, he said:” This forum is an attempt and a good start to hold larger conferences and meetings to present scientific and productive work on the labour force, because one of the main reasons for the lack of employment among youth is the lack of scientific plans and programmes”.
In another part of his speech,SU President talked about Soran University's efforts regarding the labour force: We at Soran University have done research on labour force and management, in terms of work and management, we want to go beyond the university and become a practical university and try to provide work, projects and scientific products to relevant stakeholders to solve the issues and causes of labour shortages.
Afterwards, Hakim Teli, Assistant Supervisor of the Soran Independent Administration, delivered a speech in which he thanked Soran University for holding this forum and pointed out the importance of the conference: Holding this forum at Soran University is not only a scientific conference or a discussion of an issue, but a foundation for the development of the workforce in the Soran region and a golden opportunity for the youth of the Soran Independent Administration.
A number of experts, researchers, businessmen, educators and entrepreneurs from the Kurdistan Region are participating in this event.
In the panel discussion sessions, participants focused on promoting entrepreneurial ideas and stimulating economic growth, discussing ways to prepare the workforce, the entrepreneurial mindset, young entrepreneurs and innovators and entrepreneurial ideas. They also discussed how to solve issues and obstacles among youth, on the other hand, accessing financial security, analysing the market and challenges such as: Limited resources and cultural barriers and providing solutions.

As part of the forum, three students from Soran University also shared their success stories in the field of entrepreneurship.

Afterwards, several poster projects and handicrafts of the students were presented.
During the first day of the, several musical compositions and songs were presented.
Finally,SU President AP. Dr. Sherwan Sharif Qurtas, awarded certificates of participation to the panelists and panel moderators.
The second day of the forum will continue on Wednesday 19th, February, 2025.
