Soran University Observes World Mental Health with Several Activities
In recognition of World Mental Health Day, various activities were organized by the Department of Psychology within the Faculty of Arts, in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports Activities and Arts, the Department of Sports in the Faculty of Education, and the Directorate of Health and Safety at Soran University.
On Thursday, October 10, 2024, Soran University observed World Mental Health Day with its president, AP. Dr. Sherwan Sharif Qurtas, along with faculty, staff, and students, participated. The event featured various activities, including sports, seminars, and workshops.
The day's events commenced with a series of sports activities, coordinated by professional trainers and experts. The first phase involved a group race held on Soran University’s campus. In the second phase, the positive impact of physical activity on mental well-being was discussed.
Additionally, two seminars were held. The first, led by Samir Ahmed, Head of the Directorate of Health and Safety at Soran University, focused on "The Impact of Dairy Products on Mental Health." The second seminar, delivered by Karwan Kaka Bra, Head of the Psychology Department, addressed "The Impact of Sport on Mental Health."
Another part of the activities was designated for students, where they participated practically through posters and photographs.
In the last activity, a workshop entitled "Misunderstandings of psychiatric illness" was presented by Dr. Jafar Omar, a teacher in the Department of Psychology and a physician at Sulaymaniyah Psychiatric Hospital, concluding events to mark World Mental Health Day.
