Soran University Holds its 12th Annual Student Conference
On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Soran University held its 12th Annual Student Conference under the slogan “From Science to Capability.” The event was attended by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sherwan Sharif Qurtas, President of Soran University, Mr. Halgurd Sheikh Najib, Supervisor of Soran Independent Administration, members of the University Council, faculty members, and a large gathering of students.
The conference commenced with a moment of silence, accompanied by the national anthem, “Ay Raqeeb.” Following the anthem, Prof. Dr. Rizgar Saeed Hussein, Vice President for Student Affairs and Chairman of the High Committee of the Conference, delivered the welcoming address. He detailed the preparations and outlined the primary objectives of this year’s conference.
Afterward, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sherwan Sharif Qurtas, President of Soran University, delivered a speech. While welcoming the participants, he congratulated and thanked the students for conducting scientific research and highly appreciated their efforts and hard work. In another part of his speech, the University President highlighted the importance of research and said:
“I am delighted to see the output of our students at a high level. Some of these researches are truly innovative and can serve as the foundation for practical work and projects. We aim to transform Soran University into a practical and applied university, and to produce the largest possible number of productive scientific research and studies within the framework of the university’s strategic plan. We want to make research the basis of development and to actively contribute to the progress of the country. From this platform, I call upon both the public and private sectors, as well as all those who wish to serve the country, to collaborate closely with universities so that we can serve the nation in the best possible way.”
Later, Mr. Halgurd Sheikh Najib, Supervisor of Soran Independent Administration, delivered a speech. In his address, he emphasized the importance of the student conference and stated:
Today, we are pleased to participate in this conference alongside a group of distinguished scholars and researchers from Soran University. The research presented by students at this conference can play a significant role in identifying and solving problems. Therefore, organizing such conferences is crucial, and all parties should support and cooperate in this regard. I extend my appreciation to Soran University for organizing conferences of this kind and for achieving the innovations and advancements witnessed in recent years.”
During the event, Lect. Rekan Nimat, Director of General Registration, conducted a seminar on the Student Information System (SIS) project. He demonstrated the system’s functionality and announced its official availability as a mobile application on both iOS and Android platforms.

The 12th Annual Student Conference at Soran University will present 64 scientific research papers and 11 posters by students from all scientific departments of the university over two days, following established scientific research standards and methods.
The objective of this conference is to provide students with an opportunity to identify problems through their research, ideas, and intellectual outputs, and to present appropriate solutions. It also serves as a platform for both the private and public sectors to become closely acquainted with the scientific activities of university students, enabling both sides to benefit more effectively from one another.
The conference is scheduled to continue on Thursday, April 30, 2026, featuring an additional 15 panels and 11 poster presentations.
