Volunteer Club Opens at Soran University


On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the Volunteer.KRD Club was inaugurated at Soran University. The ceremony was attended by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sherwan Sharif Qurtas, President of Soran University; Dr. Yara Barzinji, Executive Director of the Kurdistan Foundation; and a large gathering of students, lecturers, and volunteers. This club represents a new branch established by the Kurdistan Foundation within the university.
 
The ceremony began with an introduction to the club’s various sections, followed by the presentation of the elected staff. A video presentation provided attendees with an overview of the Kurdistan Foundation and its diverse departments.
 
Afterwards, Milad Sleman Safari, Director of Volunteer.KRD Projects delivered a seminar in which he presented detailed data and information. He shed light on the process of selecting the members of the club's administrative board, noting that due to the current circumstances, the process was conducted online.  He emphasized that transparency, competence, consideration of abilities, and skills were the main criteria for selecting the candidates.
 
Roshna Ilmi Ismail, Head of the Volunteer.KRD branch at Soran University also addressed the audience. She welcomed the guests and expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in the university’s students and the administrative team. She emphasized that they will invest all their efforts and capabilities in serving the students of Soran University and introducing them to broader horizons.
The main goal behind establishing the Volunteer.KRD branches in general, and at Soran University in particular, is to introduce and connect volunteers with effective volunteering opportunities across Kurdistan in general, and the Soran Independent Administration in particular. This club collaborates with non-governmental organizations, the public and private sectors to promote a culture of volunteering, civil participation, and community empowerment.
 
Kurdistan Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established to build a developed society and develop the capabilities of the Kurdistan Region. It operates based on three main missions: patriotism, construction, and progress. Within this framework, it strives to build a society in which citizens can play an active and effective role in the development process of their homeland.
