Soran University Inaugurates Building Structures and Construction Materials Research Center
On Monday, December 22, 2025, in a ceremony attended by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sherwan Sharif Qurtas, President of Soran University, members of the University Council, faculty members, and staff, the laboratory of the Building Structures and Construction Materials Research Center was opened at the Faculty of Engineering.
Established within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Building Structures and Construction Materials Research Center is dedicated to conducting tests and scientific research on construction materials and engineering structures. The center primarily focuses on work related to concrete and its constituent materials, such as testing materials like sand, gravel, and cement; mix design; quality control; and evaluation of engineering structures.
The Center is equipped with modern and standard laboratory tools, including compression testing machines, concrete mixers, temperature-controlled concrete curing tanks, specialized equipment for cutting concrete samples, vibration tables for compacting concrete samples, sensitive digital scales for weighing materials, and a variety of molds in different types and sizes.
The center provides a practical environment for students, researchers, and engineers to conduct scientific research, enhance practical learning, and contribute to the development of strong and sustainable construction materials and structural systems.
The project to construct the laboratory of the Building Structures and Construction Materials Research Center at the Faculty of Engineering was implemented using the university's internal revenue, with a budget of 60 million Iraqi dinars, by the team of the University of Soran's Engineering and Projects Management Directorate.
