Symposium Titled "Substance Addiction: The Most Dangerous Disease of the Era—Causes and Prevention" Held at Soran University


On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Science, Soran University, in coordination with the Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF), hosted a symposium titled “Substance Addiction: The Most Dangerous Disease of the Era—Causes and Prevention.” The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Sirwan Zand, Vice President for Scientific Affairs, representatives from the Barzani Charity Foundation, as well as faculty members and students from the Faculty of Science.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Sirwan Zand, Vice President for Scientific Affairs, emphasized the critical importance of organizational coordination between Soran University and the Barzani Charity Foundation in fostering a rigorous and unified response to the issue of substance abuse.

Subsequently, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ayad Nouri Faqi, Dean of the Faculty of Science, addressed the audience, highlighting the global challenges and imminent dangers associated with the potential proliferation of narcotics and harmful substances.

Following the opening addresses, two scientific panels were convened to conduct a comparative and fundamental analysis regarding the combat against this critical issue. The panels explored prevention strategies and examined the impact of narcotics on both the human psyche and civil society. The discussions featured expert panelists from the fields of psychology, pharmacy, biology, law, sociology, and theology.

The event concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the panelists and moderators.
