Soran University and Barzani Charity Foundation Sign Memorandum of Understanding

On Thursday, July 10, 2025, a delegation from the Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF), led by Musa Ahmed, President of the BCF, visited Soran University (SU) and was warmly welcomed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sherwan Sharif Qurtas, President of Soran University, along with members of the university council.
During the meeting, SU President welcomed the visiting delegation and expressed his delight at their visit. In response, BCF President thanked Soran University for their warm reception and expressed his appreciation for the university’s progress in academic and scientific fields.
Following in-depth discussions, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding climate change was signed between the two parties. After the signing ceremony, a press conference was held with the participation of both the SU President and the President of the BCF. During the press conference, the objectives of the MoU were outlined to the media, focusing on several key points.
 The most prominent of these include the adoption of scientific research as a fundamental basis for joint projects between the University and the Foundation, as well as emphasizing environmental concerns. The MoU encompasses a comprehensive research project on climate change, to be implemented through the University of Soran’s Climate Change Center. This center will lead the project with the participation of two research teams—one from the University of Soran and the other from the BCF.
 These teams will collaborate to produce detailed outcomes that address climate change and its impacts at the level of the Kurdistan Region. As a first step, the project will commence in the Soran Independent Administration. As part of their visit to the University of Soran, the BCF delegation also visited the university’s Research Center to gain firsthand insight into its work and projects in the field of scientific research, particularly those related to climate change.
