Soran University Holds its Fifteenth Alumni Graduation Ceremony
On Sunday, November 10, 2024, the graduation ceremony of the 15th session of Soran University for the graduates of the 2023-2024 academic year was held at the Ceremony Hall in the Soran Independent Administration. The Ceremony was held under the slogan "Towards Sustainability", and was attended by AP.Dr. Sherwan Sharif Qurtas, President of Soran University; Aram Mohammed Qadir, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Halgurd Sheikh Najib, Supervisor of Soran Independent Administration, government and party officials, teachers, students, and parents.
After the graduates entered the Ceremony Hall, the graduation ceremony of the fifteenth session kicked off.
In the beginning, the audience observed several moments of silence paying homage to the pure souls of the martyrs, while listening to the Iraqi, and the Kurdistan Regional Government national anthems.
Later, SU President, AP.Dr.Sherwan Sharif Qurtas delivered a speech in which he congratulated the graduates, and expressed his pleasure at the presence of the guests. He said it is really a nice feeling and I am honored to welcome you all to another graduation ceremony at Soran University.
In part of his speech, the SU President referred to the number of graduates and said: With pride, 1306 young cadres were able to obtain their bachelor's, master's, doctorate, and higher diplomas today. It is , therefore, fitting that I congratulate you on this degree, and that your initial endeavors be blessed forever. I would also like to congratulate all the teachers and staff of Soran University, teaching, and administration staff, as active participants in the success of these individuals in this session.
In another part of his speech, the SU President addressed the graduates and said: "We are delighted with your graduation and at the same time saddened by your departure, but rest assured that you will forever remain members of your larger home of SU". Wherever you are, SU is proud of you and will always support you. Dear Graduates, you have already gone through a phase of your life, a phase full of difficulties and challenges of university study, this is the beginning of another phase of your life. I hope that all the knowledge and skills you have acquired from SU will help you to illuminate this new phase and your future and achieve all your goals. May God help you, bless your life, and make it full of peace".
At the end of his speech, the SU President thanked the Higher Committee, supervisors, volunteer groups, and organizers of the 15th session of SU Alumni.
Later, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Aram Mohammad Qadir delivered a speech": I would like to congratulate Soran University, the struggling Soran region, Kurdistan in general, and the parents of the students. My participation here with you is special for me because we started and finished together". In his speech, he thanked the resistance of Soran University and the parents of the students who did not allow the educational process to be disrupted despite all the challenges, issues, and obstacles that haven't prevented the continuation of the educational process".
In another part of his speech, he spoke about the facilities provided to students: He said that fortunately, despite the obstacles, the Ministry Council decided to reduce the tuition fees by 45 percent, and to those dears who have applied electronically, it was decided that 100 percent of the students get accepted, because we knew that have not students are struggling amid these crises, and who have dreamt of going to their favorite universities.
Dr Aram Mohammad Qadir then turned to the students and said: "Dear enthusiastic boys and girls and this year's graduates, your university, people, and parents have worked hard with you, this is very respectful and you should thank them from the bottom of your heart. I thank each of your parents and kiss their hands, who have given you the joy of life, to see this day. Dear graduates, may you fulfill your dreams in the future".
Afterward, Shorash Miran Mulla, the Students’ Branch official, congratulated the students and the SU Council, and thanked SU and all its teachers and staff who were constantly trying to improve the scientific level and prevented the flame of science from being extinguished.
Later, Dr. Rizgar Saeed, SU President’s assistant for Students’ Affairs, echoed the graduation oath to the graduates of the 15th session. The faculties deans then requested the University’s President to grant the certificates to the graduates, and the President, on behalf of the University Council, granted them the certificates.
Founded in 2009, SU currently consists of five faculties and 27 scientific departments. SU has been among the leading universities in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region since its establishment.
This session includes 1,306 graduates, from 27 different disciplines, in bachelor's, master's, and doctoral studies. These graduates include a large number of talented and competent persons who can serve in various fields.
