The international conference “The Role and Influence of Russian Orientalists in Introducing the Kurds and the Kurdistan Cause” commences its Works



On Sunday, 29th September 2024, the International conference” The Role and Influence of Russian Orientalists in Introducing the Kurds and the Kurdistan Cause”, began its work.
The Conference was attended by AP.Dr. Sherwan Sharif Qurtas, President of Soran University, Omed Khoshanw, Governor of Erbil, Dr. Zhala Saeed, representative of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Elbrus Kutrashev, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Russia to Iraq, Maxim Robin, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Russia in the Kurdistan Region, a significant number of teachers, students, and academics.
The conference began with a minute's silence to pay tribute to the souls of the Kurdistan martyrs while listening to the Iraqi and Kurdistan national anthems.
 
Later, AP. Dr. Sherwan Sharif Qurtas, President of Soran University, delivered a speech. In his remarks, he expressed his pleasure at holding this conference, as the first joint conference between Soran University and the Institute of Oriental Studies "Russian Academy of Sciences" in coordination with the Representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Russia.
On the other hand, the President of Soran University stressed the importance of getting closer to all academic and knowledge centers within and outside the world. To that end, he pointed out that, in cooperation and coordination with the Russian Academy of Sciences, they had taken practical and rapid steps towards the completion of this Conference, to revive and continue the issue of familiarization with Kurdish culture, history, and literature from scientific and academic perspectives.
 
Meanwhile, He referred to the names of several Russian orientalists, such as Minorsky, Nikitin, Rudinga, Fedorov, Arabi Shamo, and Jalil Jalili, who focused on the Kurdish issue and Kurdistan and would remain immortal with Kurds. The President of Soran University said that the conference would not be the last academic work between the two universities, but a second conference would be planned soon. At the end; He wished the conference success and thanked the Prime Minister's Office, the Representative of the Government of the Kurdistan Region in Russia, the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Erbil, the preparatory and scientific committees, and all technical and logistical committees, Kurdistan Media Corporation and all other media outlets.
Afterward, Elbrus Kutrashev, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Iraq, delivered a speech. While congratulating the organizers of the conference, he pointed to the different dimensions of bilateral relations between Kurds, Kurdistan, and Russia, stressing the importance of scientific discussion of these relations to better benefit from them, in various fields in general and academics in particular.
Then, four panels were held, two main panels and two dedicated to researchers, as follows:

4. Danar Abubakr Mustafa, Kurdistan Regional Government Representative in Russia, Panelist: The Role of the Kurdistan Regional Government Representative Office fostering Russian-Kurdish relations at the current stage.
5. Maxim Malirchuk, Head of the Russian-Iraqi Chamber of Commerce, Panelist: 250 Years of Russian-Kurdish Relations: Impact on Economic and Trade Development.

5. AP. Dr. Margarita Karatingina, Moscow Tchaikovsky College of Art, Panelist: The richness of Kurdish culture and traditions as a scientific resource for Russian Kurdologists.

At the end of each panel, participation certificates were distributed to researchers.
 
The international conference “Role and Influence of Russian Orientalists in Introducing Kurds and Kurdistan Cause” is held under the media sponsorship of Kurdistan Media Network. The event is organized jointly between Soran University and the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government Representation in Russia. The two-day conference aims to gain a deeper understanding of the role and influence of Russian orientalists in introducing the Kurds and the Kurdistan cause.
