The TRANSITION project aims to enhance the role of universities in the Kurdistan Region in preserving the cultural heritage of diverse religious communities, particularly in terms of their culture, traditions, and beliefs. This is achieved through developing educational programs and building the capacities of academic staff.

The importance of this project stems from the significance of cultural heritage as a core element of societal identity and a tool for supporting sustainable development, especially in regions facing conflict. The project relies on international academic partnerships, thereby linking university education to societal realities through the development of a more comprehensive teaching approach. This enhances the role of universities in preserving cultural heritage and supporting cultural diversity.

This package (WP4), hosted by the University of Sulaimani, focused on developing the capacities of academic staff and researchers from universities in the Kurdistan Region (Soran, Sulaimani, Duhok, Zakho) and Yemen (Aden, Taiz) regarding the cultural heritage of religious and ethnic communities. It also addressed linking this heritage to sustainable development goals, methods of preservation using modern programs and techniques, digitization of archaeological sites and remaining artifacts, as well as conducting field visits. These activities were supervised by Sapienza University of Rome (Italy) and the University of Évora (Portugal), along with the participation of local academic staff from the University of Sulaimani.
