A seminar on the Obstacles of Climate Change in Kurdistan and the World is held at Soran University
On Sunday, December 1st, 2024, in the GIS Hall at the Scientific Research Centre of Soran University (SU), a seminar entitled: "Results of COPE29 Conference, Obstacles of Climate Change in Kurdistan and the World" was held. The event was organized for Prof. Dr Kamal Kolo, Head of the Climate Change Research Centre at SU, and was attended by teachers and students.
At the beginning of the seminar, Dr. Kamal Kolo said that his participation in the COPE29 international conference on environmental issues, which was held under the auspices of the United Nations, in Baku, Azerbaijan, was significant for Soran University and the Kurdistan Region because it was the first time a team of experts and professionals to participate in the climate change conferences.
Dr. Kolo also highlighted "Green Education" at the conference, noting that what will take Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to a higher level in climate change combat is the establishment of a "Green Education" system in the education stages. To this end, SU wants to create people with expertise in the environmental field via higher education, which will, in turn, pave the way for the creation of regional data for the Kurdistan Region to be worked on.
At the end of his seminar, the Head of the Climate Change Research Centre spoke about the center's projects and programs, noting that they are working on establishing "green education" in schools. He said that they are currently working on projects through scientific research to provide data and information to stakeholders to mitigate the effects of climate change.
Note: The Climate Change Conference is organized annually by the United Nations General Assembly, and this year's conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, lasted for two weeks.
