Abstract

This study examined the process of PKK disarmament and dissolution in 2025 and its implications for regional security and Kurdish politics. The main issue addressed was the limited understanding of the long-term consequences of disarmament, particularly how the success or failure of this process could influence the behavior of the PKK and similar non-state armed groups in the region. The study aimed to analyze the future of the PKK and comparable groups under both successful and unsuccessful disarmament outcomes, as well as to identify the broader political and security consequences. The research adopted a qualitative methodology, relying on both primary and secondary dat. Primary data were collected through interviews with political experts, while secondary data were gathered from official reports, academic literature, and news sources. The study was guided by Rational Choice Theory, which was used to explain how armed groups make strategic decisions based on costs, benefits, and expected outcomes. The findings illustrated that successful disarmament could encourage the transformation of the PKK into a legitimate political actor and promote stability. In contrast, failure of the process was likely to lead to renewed violence, fragmentation of armed groups, and increased regional instability.
